Cristal's clear-bottomed bottle and gold label were originally created in 1876 by Louis Roederer for Tsar Alexander II of Russia, who requested a flat-bottomed crystal bottle so it couldn't conceal explosives. After falling out of circulation, the cuvée was reintroduced in 1945 and is now one of the world's most celebrated prestige champagnes.
